The Institute of Fishery Management (IFM) has established an annual scholarship in memory of the late Simon McKelvey. At the time of his death in 2018 Simon was chairman of the Scottish Branch of IFM, Director of the Cromarty Firth District Salmon Fishery Board and a key member of numerous fishery related committees. A passionate advocate of training provision and continuing professional development, Simon was a friend and mentor to so many in the fisheries world. IFM are offering a place on the each of the certificate and diploma courses free of charge on an annual basis. In the first instance applicants based in Scotland will be given priority.
The certificate course is a perfect introduction to the field of fisheries management and is the place to start for anyone looking for a change of career, or for someone who just wants to learn about fisheries in general. The Diploma course would suit someone already working in fisheries who wants to deepen their knowledge of fisheries management. This is more advanced level compared to the IFM Certificate Course and provides the level of knowledge required by persons employed in positions such as fishery officers or water bailiffs. More information can be found on the IFM website https://ifm.org.uk/ifm-training/
To apply for the bursary please complete the application form and email it back to the IFM Scottish Branch Secretary at [email protected]by Monday the 14thof September.
