The symposium will review the considerable advances in our knowledge about the biology, genetics, and behaviour of sea trout with the aim to develop and communicate recommendations for management to urgently restore and protect sea trout stocks in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland based on best available evidence.

The conference will feature presentations presented by sea trout experts across a range of topics. There will also be opportunities for delegates to add to the knowledge through roundtable discussions.

Conference sessions will include:

  • What do we know about sea trout?
  • A review of current management practice (double session)
  • Value of sea trout to aquatic ecosystems
  • Threats facing sea trout
  • Facilitated workshops

The key conclusions from the symposium will be taken forward to a follow up workshop to be held at Fishmongers Hall in London in November, when, with selected key decision makers, we aim to draw up recommendations for the future management of sea trout in Britain and Ireland. These will include a greater emphasis on local action and resources and considering sea trout in the wider nature conservation context.
