
Overview
We are seeking a proactive and organised individual to take on a multi-role as Tackle Shop Supervisor and Fishery Maintenance Team Member. This unique position combines retail management responsibilities with hands-on fishery maintenance and customer service. This is a practical, outdoor role that involves working in all weather conditions and contributing to a wide range of fishery, land, and property maintenance tasks.
The successful candidate will manage the day-to-day operations of the tackle shop — including stock control, ordering, and customer service — while also supporting the Fishery Manager with the maintenance and upkeep of the lakes and surrounding facilities.
As part of this role, you will also be required to stay on-site at least two nights per week (accommodation provided) to cover the overnight function of the fishery, ensuring site security, customer support, and fishery safety during out-of-hours periods.
Key Responsibilities
Tackle Shop Supervisor
- Oversee the daily operations of the tackle shop, ensuring smooth and efficient running.
- Manage stock levels, ordering, and supplier relationships to maintain optimal product availability.
- Handle all sales transactions, cash management, and daily reconciliation.
- Provide excellent customer service, product advice, and support to anglers.
- Ensure the shop is clean, organised, and visually appealing at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of sales, stock movement, and supplier invoices.
- Implement seasonal promotions and new product displays.
Fishery/ Maintenance Team Member
- Support the Fishery Manager with general maintenance across all lakes, grounds, and facilities.
- Carry out land maintenance, including the care of woodlands, grass meadows, fencing, public facilities, paths, and drainage systems.
- Undertake a variety of duties such as grass cutting, strimming, leaf blowing, weeding, pruning, and planting.
- Operate and maintain a range of machinery and equipment, including tractors, mowers, forestry machinery, and chainsaws.
- Perform general estate and fishery maintenance, including minor building and infrastructure repairs.
- Complete general handyman duties such as painting, decorating, minor carpentry, and basic plumbing.
- Assist with fishery management tasks, including feeding, stocking, and monitoring water quality.
- Act as a bailiff when required — checking tickets, engaging with anglers, and ensuring fishery rules are followed.
- Support habitat improvement and lake maintenance projects.
- Ensure that all activities are carried out safely and in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Contribute to the overall presentation, functionality, and safety of the fishery site.
Overnight Duties
- Stay on-site a minimum of two nights per week (accommodation provided).
- Monitor the fishery overnight, ensuring customer safety and security of the site.
- Provide assistance to anglers during overnight sessions where required.
- Respond to emergencies, alarms, or incidents promptly and professionally.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience in retail or shop management (ideally within the angling or outdoor sector).
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Good understanding of fishing tackle, bait, and related products.
- Practical maintenance or groundskeeping experience.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and overnight stays.
Desirable:
.Candidate Requirements
- Experience working within a commercial fishery or angling venue.
- Solid understanding of land and fishery management practices, including fish husbandry, conservation, fencing, and forestry work.
- Knowledge of basic fishery management and environmental practices.
- Proven ability to operate machinery such as tractors, mowers, excavators, and chainsaws.
- Competence using ride-on mowers, strimmer’s, and other maintenance machinery.
- Practical maintenance skills, including basic carpentry, plumbing, and general property upkeep.
- Trailer towing experience is advantageous.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Chainsaw CS30/31, PA1/PA6 spraying certificates) are highly desirable
Working Hours:
- Full-time position (including weekends and bank holidays).
- Minimum of two overnight stays per week on-site (accommodation provided).
- Flexibility required during busy fishing seasons.
