Position statement on the UK General Election, 2024 

The Institute has released its latest Position statement on the UK General Election for 2024. The statement highlights the plight of some of our fish populations and calls on the next government to increase investment and commit to improving the aquatic environment in all its forms.

Key points

*The shocking state of some of our fish populations must serve as a wakeup call to governments.

*Decision makers must urgently scale up investment and commitment to protecting and restoring healthy rivers, lakes and wetlands. 

 *This will safeguard our vanishing freshwater and migratory fishes, but will also enhance water and food security, reverse nature loss and accelerate climate action.
