Director of Natural Resources

Falkland Islands Government

£93k – £108k + significant benefits package

The Falkland Islands are immensely proud of their stewardship of the natural environment and are keen to secure an exceptional candidate to lead the development of the Natural Resources Directorate. This Directorate is critical to the life of the Islands through Fisheries Science & Operations, Agriculture, Veterinary Services and the development of new and emerging land and sea-based farming. Fees and taxes provide a significant component of Government income and enables reinvestment into the industry for future generations. As a member of the Government’s Corporate Management Team, the Director will also need to play a key role in the wider strategic leadership of the Falkland Islands Government. Leading the development and operational delivery of all aspects of the Islands’ natural resource operations, this is a wholly unique role in a breath-taking and distinctive environment. This is a big job at a point of major change.

You’ll need to be an accomplished leader with relevant experience to enable you to effectively lead and develop the Directorate, bringing expertise of fisheries as well as an appreciation of agriculture. You will thrive in an environment where there is a broad range of stakeholders – both on- and off-island. With a new accord for the fishing industry this is an exciting time, but it will need a skilled individual to ensure its effective implementation. The ability to see the bigger picture is critical as is the ability to distil that as the Directorate develops to meet future need. From already strong foundations, this is an unrivalled opportunity to lead Natural Resources in an outstanding part of the World.
