Registrations to attend the World Fisheries Congress 2021, 20 – 24 September, are now open.

One of the largest gatherings of fisheries research, industry and management sectors in the world, WFC2021 will be held in Adelaide, South Australia.

Designed to ensure access to everyone in the global fishing community, the event can be attended either in-person or online.

The dynamic and comprehensive five day program will be delivered under the overarching theme of ‘Sharing our oceans and rivers – a vision for the world’s fisheries’ and bring together the latest technological advances in marine and freshwater fisheries.

The event’s opening address will be given by Peter Thomson, the United Nation Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean who is responsible for driving global support for UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, to conserve and sustainably use the Ocean’s resources.

The Fijian diplomat is a founding Co-Chair of the Friends of Ocean Action and is a supporting member of the High-Level Panel for Sustainable Ocean Economy.

An overwhelming response was received to the call for abstracts, with more than 1400 abstracts submitted under the four key themes:

  • Sustainable Fisheries (Assessment, Regulation, Enforcement)
  • Fish and Aquatic Ecosystems (Biodiversity, Conservation, Ecosystem Function, Integrated Management)
  • Fisheries and Society (Contributions to Sustainable Development)
  • Future of Fish and Fisheries (Innovations in Fisheries).

WFC2021 promises to be both an exciting and inspiring event with a diverse and thought-provoking program of topics.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the sustainable development of the world’s oceans, lakes, estuaries and rivers alongside key industry sectors, leading researchers, and the most influential aquatic science agencies worldwide.
