The Institute is pleased to collaborate with the Association of IFCAs on the second series of briefings for IFCA members and officers.

These briefings are designed to provide members and officers with the opportunity to:
a) engage with recognised experts in marine and fisheries policy, enhancing their understanding of issues relevant to their role within the IFCA; and
b) share their own knowledge, skills, and experience to support their professional development, strengthen their contribution as members and promote the exchange of best practice across the network.

The briefings will be held virtually over Zoom and will be no longer than 90 minutes in length.  Interested members and officers must register in advance to be sent the joining details.

Session 1 - Recreational Angling

22nd October 12:30 - 14:00

Our first talk for 2025 will be focussing on recreational angling and will be presented by Mat Mander and Hannah Rudd.

Mat is the Chief Officer for Devon and Severn IFCA. In his presentation, he will outline the work undertaken by the Authority to date, including the development of angling zones and the closure of estuaries to netting to enhance angling opportunities in these areas. Mat will also discuss the IFCA's statutory duties and how these underpin its approach to sustainable fisheries management.

Hannah, Head of Marine at the Angling Trust, will take us on a deep dive into the Trust’s work to champion and grow recreational sea angling around the UK’s coastline. Her talk will highlight the projects, partnerships and campaigns that are currently being undertaken by the Trust.

You can find out more about the Angling Trusts marine work on their website

The session will kindly be chaired by Amelia Henderson who is the Chair of the Northumberland IFCA

Please note these events are only open to IFCA members and staff. All names will be checked before joining instructions are sent out
