The aim of this course is to enhance the knowledge and capacity of staff in organisations within the Great Yorkshire Rivers Partnership, enabling them to effectively engage in the removal of barriers within their catchments.

This two-day course will be specifically tailored to small to medium dam and barrier removal projects in the UK and will be delivered by experienced practitioners from Rivers Trusts, consultancies and GYR partners.

Over the two-days sessions will cover

  • Identifying barriers and how to assess their passibility and potential for removal
  • Technical requirements for removing barriers
  • Legal and regulatory requirements for barrier removal
  • Working with the local community and building partnerships
  • Assessment and modelling

There will also be group work looking at local case studies as well as a field trip to the River Don.

Further Information

Each GYR partner organisation can register 2 team members initially. If there is still space after all of the organisations have registered then additional spaces will be offered.

The course has been heavily subsidised by GYR which has kept the costs down to just £50 per person
