From 23–27 February 2026, organisations across the UK come together to mark Chartered Week, a national awareness initiative celebrating the impact and value of Chartered professionals in society.
This year’s theme, Celebrating Trusted Professionals, highlights the crucial role that Chartered status plays in strengthening public confidence across sectors. For IFM, this resonates strongly with our mission to uphold high standards of professional practice in fisheries science, management and conservation.
Chartered registration demonstrates more than technical competence. It reflects a commitment to ethical conduct, ongoing professional development, and evidence-based decision making, qualities that are essential in a field as dynamic and publicly accountable as fisheries management. Whether working in river restoration, stock assessment, consultancy, regulation, research or community engagement, our Chartered members embody professionalism in action.
Through IFM, members can pursue Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) registration, recognising their expertise and dedication to maintaining standards that support sustainable fisheries and aquatic environments. In an era of increasing environmental complexity, from climate pressures to biodiversity loss, the credibility that Chartered status brings has never been more important.

Chartered Week provides an opportunity to showcase the breadth and depth of expertise within our community. Throughout the week, we will highlight some of our Chartered members across our social media channels, sharing their professional journeys and reflecting on what it means to be a trusted practitioner in fisheries and aquatic management today.
To further support our Chartered members, IFM has recently introduced a dedicated Chartered badge. This visual asset allows members to clearly display their Chartered status across email signatures, websites, LinkedIn profiles, and other marketing materials. The badge provides a simple yet powerful way to signal professional credibility and commitment to high standards. We encourage all Chartered members to make use of this asset; it is available to download from the IFM website.
For members who are not yet Chartered, this week offers the perfect opportunity to explore the pathways available through IFM. Achieving Chartered status is a significant professional milestone, but it is also an investment in your future, strengthening career progression, professional recognition and the wider reputation of our sector.
At IFM, we are proud to support our members on their Chartered journey and to contribute to a community of professionals committed to excellence, integrity and lifelong learning.
