IFM Scottish Branch Spey Habitat Restoration Site Visit
In October members of Scottish Branch visited the Spey to look at habitat restoration works. Duncan Fergusson from the Spey Board very kindly showed us around a number habitat restoration projects on the Lorgy Burn and River Dulnain.
The restoration of river processes by the introduction of timber into the Lorgy Burn was particularly impressive. Now that the site has matured since the initial timber introduction, the benefits of remeandering and reconnection with the floodplain can clearly be seen. This has resulted in an increase in habitat diversity which will give long term benefits to fish populations in the burn.
The next Scottish Branch event will be a visit to the River Blackwater fish trap at Tarvie near Garve which will take place on the 25th of November at 10am.
A full programme of events and site visits will be organised for 2019 in conjunction with the Wild Trout Trust.
